CFA 6261 - 30 Hour Longcase Underhill (Newport)
An attractive late 18th Century painted arch dial striking longcase clock of 30 hour duration.
The 12" wide dial with floral designs as the spandrels and as a decorative feature in the arch, a chapter ring of black Roman numerals, a pair of attractive gilt brass hands and the name of W.Underhill, Newport (Shropshire 1782-1836). A hood with fluted pillars, swan neck arch with applied brass roundels and a mahogany hood door with brass knob. The mahognay cross-banded oak case has a wavy top trunk door decoratively inlaid with a satinwood thistle against a harewood background, it has an attractive brass escutcheon with working lock and key. A mahogany cross-banded and further inlaid base terminates in shaped bracket feet.
