A most desirable early 19th Century mahogany cased painted dial striking 8 day longcase clock, by James Northwood, Newport (Shropshire, 1840-1875).
The 12" dial has floral spandrels to the corners and a loch scene to the arch, a seconds hand and date aperture showing a working date wheel behind. The slim mahogany case has a hood with swan neck pediment and large florally carved roundels over a pair of turned and fluted pillars with brass bases and capitals, over a trunk with quarter turned fluted pillasters, a wavy top trunk door with working lock and key, a square base and bracket feet.
