An excellent tall slim 18th century mahogany cased striking 8 day brass dial rolling moon longcase clock by Thomas Birchall, Nantwhich (circa 1784).
The 13" arch dial has a lunar wheel to the arch over a raised brass chapter ring with seconds hand over a pair of winding holes over a working date wheel showing through the half moon shaped aperture. In the corners is a fine set of female head spandrels. The long slim case has a hood with swan neck pediment with brass roundels, over a pair of turned and fluted pillars with brass capitals and bases either side the glass door with brass knob. The attractive trunk has a pair of quarter fluted pilasters either side a boxwood strung door with satinwood shield shape escutcheon, working lock and key. The base is similarly strung and stands on a bracket foot plinth.
