A beautiful 18th century London mahogany cased striking 8 day arch brass dial longcase clock of tall slim proportions by William Carter, Southwark (London).

This impressive four hand clock has a 12" arched brass dial with strike/silent lever and a silvered chapter ring in the arch above a silvered chapter ring with internal date markings enclosing a finely matted centre with silvered seconds dial and makers details on shaped cartouche, all enclosed by four cast spandrels. All four hands are of blued steel and are original to the clock. The swan neck hood with gilt roundels has two blind fretwork panels over turned and fluted brass capped pillars enclosing the glazed door with brass knob. The trunk has quarter turned and fluted pilasters either side a wavy top door with central marquetry inlay, scroll escutcheon and working lock and key over a square moulded base with shaped bracket plinth.
