CFA 6307 - 8 Day Longcase Gabriel Smith (Nantwich)
A rare and highly sought after mid 18th century oak cased square brass dial, striking 8 day longcase clock by Gabriel Smith, Nantwich (Chester and Nantwich, 1752-1797).
The 12" square brass dial has scroll engraving around the edges, cast crown and cross spandrels, a raised chapter ring enclosing a matted dial with wheatear engraving around the circumference, ringed winding holes, a raised seconds chapter ring together with a chamfered date aperture showing a working date wheel behind. The plain oak case has a flat top hood over a blind fretwork frieze over integral ¾ turned door pilasters over a plain trunk with compressed arched top door, over a square base on platform plinth.
