A very rare and much admired, tall oak cased 18th century musical, striking and chiming on 8 bells, square brass dial longcase clock by Thos.Tompion, London (Thomas Tompion).
The 11" square brass dial with makers details on the bottom edge has cast crown head spandrels around a raised silvered chapter ring surrounding a finely matted engraved centre with raised silvered seconds chapter ring, 3 winding holes for time, strike and chime, together with all blued steel hands. The tall oak case has a hood with caddy top over a moulding atop a blind fretwork frieze over a pair of plain turned pillars either side the hood door with brass knob. The plain trunk has a flat top door with moulded edge and working lock and key, plus a circular viewing lenticle. The square base stands on a bracket plinth.
