CFA 6654 - A Georgian Mahogany Cutlery Box

In stock

A fantastic Georgian mahogany cutlery box with original fitted interior. So many of the cutlery boxes from the Georgian period have been converted to stationery boxes therefore it is rare to be able to offer such a piece that has the correct, original fitted interior.

The mahogany box is decorated with boxwood and ebony herringbone inlay and there are brass carrying handles either side. There is an attractive brass lock plate, but unfortunately there is no key. The hinged lid opens to reveal an inlaid satinwood and ebony star to the lid and further boxwood and ebony herringbone inlay. The original fitted interior is still in tact with 44 apertures for various cutleries. It is currently fitted with 12 knives and 12 forks and these are included in the sale.

The box is in really good overall condition, with just a few signs of splitting/warping to the veneer to the lid.
